૧૦,૦૦૦ ફૂટ ઊંચો બ્રિજ બનાવી સ્વિત્ઝરલેંડે કમાલ કરી, તસવીરો

હવામાં વાદળોની વચ્ચે ચાલવાનું આવે તો ખરેખર કેવી મજા આવે એવો ક્યારેય વિચાર આવ્યો છે, જો આવ્યો હોય તો આ વિચાર સાર્થક થયો છે. તમે ઇચ્છો તો આ શક્ય બની શકે છે,કારણ કે સ્વિત્ઝર્લેન્ડમાં આલ્પ્સ પર્વત પર ૧૦,૦૦૦ ફૂટની ઊંચાઈએ વોક-વે બ્રિજ બનાવાયો છે. આ બ્રિજ પર જઈને તમે દરિયાઈ સપાટીથી ૧૦,૦૦૦ ફૂટની ઊંચાઈએ ચાલી શકશો અને ત્યાંથી નીચેની દુનિયાનાં સુંદર દૃશ્યો જોઈ શકશો. સ્વિત્ઝર્લેન્ડમાં આલ્પ્સ પર્વતમાળામાં ગ્લેસિયરની ઉપર લોકોને ચાલવા માટે ખાસ બ્રિજ બનાવવામાં આવ્યો છે. આ બ્રિજ બનાવનારાં લોકોનું કહેવું છે કે આ બ્રિજ દરિયાની સપાટીથી ૧૦,૦૦૦ ફૂટ ઊંચે બાંધવામાં આવ્યો છે, એટલું જ નહીં તેને લોકો માટે ખુલ્લો પણ મૂકી દેવામાં આવ્યો છે. ૧૯૧૩ જાન્યુઆરીમાં એન્ગલબર્ગ અને જેર્કનિઆલ્પને જોડતા કેબલ-વેની ૧૦૦મી વર્ષગાંઠ નિમિત્તે આ બ્રિજ બનાવવામાં આવ્યો છે.

આ બ્રિજ બનાવવા માટે એન્જિનિયરો સતત પાંચ મહિના સુધી અહીંયાં રહ્યા હતા. આલ્પ્સના તિતલિસ પર્વત પર બનાવેલો આ તિતલિસ ક્લિફ વોક સમુદ્રથી ૧૦,૦૦૦ ફૂટ ઉપર છે. આ બ્રિજનાં બાંધકામની વાત કરીએ તો બ્રિજનો ૩૩૦ ફૂટ લાંબો અને ૩ ફૂટ પહોળો એક ભાગ બનાવવા માટે એક મિલિયન યૂરો ખર્ચ થયો છે, હવે જો પુલની કુલ વિગતનો આંકડો માંડો તો અબજો યૂરોમાં તે આંકડો જાય, જો કે આ બ્રિજ લોકો માટે ખુલ્લો મૂકવામાં આવ્યો ત્યારે બરફનું તોફાન આવ્યું હતું. થોડા સમય માટે તો પુલ પર ઊભેલાં લોકોને દસ ફૂટ દૂરનું દૃશ્ય પણ દેખાતું નહોતું. લોકો ગભરાઈ ગયાં હતાં, જો કે થોડાક સમયમાં બધું જ શાંત થઈ ગયું હતું અને લોકોને રાહત થઈ હતી.

Engineering miracle

The arches will eventually measure more than 1,000 feet across.  At the moment, the structure looks like a traditional suspension bridge.  But once the arches are complete, the suspending cables on each side will be removed.  Extra vertical columns will then be installed on the arches to carry the road.   The bridge has become known as the Hoover Dam bypass, although it is officially called the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, after a former governor of Nevada and an American Football player from Arizona who joined the US Army and was killed in Afghanistan. Work on the bridge started in 2005 and should finish next year.  An estimated 17,000 cars and trucks will cross it every day. The dam was started in 1931 and used enough concrete to build a road from New York to San Francisco .  The stretch of water it created, Lake Mead , is 110 miles long and took six years to fill.  The original road was opened at the same time as the famous dam in 1936. An extra note:  The top of the white band of rock in Lake Mead is the old waterline prior to the drought and development in the Las Vegas area.  It is over 100 feet above the current water level.                   **************************************************************************************************** And finally this is the photo of the completed Bridge.

Building the Golden Gate Bridge 1933-1937

The Golden Gate Bridge, an architectural wonder and American icon, was opened on May 27, 1937. It had taken four years and over $35 million to build and the chief engineer overseeing its construction, Joseph Strauss wrote an appropriately titled poem to commemorate its opening: "The Mighty Task is Done."
